PART THREE
THE IMMORTAL VINCENZO BALSAMO!!
The
Romantic World, 1993 by Balsamo
q FIRST DAYS OF BALSAMO IN ROME
October 1960, Balsamo marries Lidia Tedesco. This was the only
pleasant event of the year. Nothing real big is occurring in his artistic
career. Expectations are high and so is anxiety and uncertainty about a stable
future. He does not want to hear any more compliments or accept further tributes
and encouragement. Everybody is predicting him a majestic future but, for now
what he really needs is the peace of mind and serenity cemented on solid
financial ground. The year passed by and Balsamo is counting his days in Rome or
what is left over. 1961 is around the corner and nothing seems to happen.
Suddenly, out of the blue, he was offered his first chance to exhibit in Rome at the “IL Camino
Gallery”. The show was a great success. The media raved about him. He is on
his way to become a hot commodity yet, the bank account is not getting fatter.
Suddenly, he is invited to curate here and there, until one day lady luck
knocked at his door; he has been commissioned for the creation of a scenography
for the motion picture “CLEOPATRA”!! What a break!! Balsamo took the
assignment and delivered a magnificent job. Producers were impressed. More
cinematographic works and commissions will follow and keep on following for two
consecutive years. In 1962, Roberto, his first bambino is born.

The year 1962 inaugurates the beginning of the real success and
fame of the young Italian painter Vincenzo Balsamo. He exhibits all over Europe.
Art connoisseurs, art collectors and art investors snatch his work. Paintings
are sold right and left. He is en vogue. The critics rave about him. Balsamo is
on his way to the top. His energy is re-energized. His productivity is
re-charged. Money start to come. His genius talent explores all media and
conquers various themes. This is a very productive year of Balsamo. Remarkable
paintings are produced; splendid landscape paintings of Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio
and Campania come to life with fantastic, vibrant, intense and intelligent
colors at multi-dimensional levels. Dozens of articles in leading magazines and
newspapers praise his greatness and unsurpassed talent. Balsamo made it! And
this time he made it big time!! He is no longer the poor little boy retouching
the old paintings in dusty churches in his hometown, nor the little kid doing
odd jobs here and there around constructions sites and between his teacher’s
four studio corners. Balsamo now has been recognized by his peers and the
art community as one of the promising great painters of Italy. Mannoni, Del
Massa, Omiccioli among other eminent art critics praised his talent. Balsamo is
invited to exhibit at the prestigious X Quadriennale of Rome. The number of
invitations and exhibitions multiply. Museums and galleries around the world
opened their doors to him. He toured Europe and many parts of the world and
mingled with world class artists and celebrities to name a few; Pablo Picasso,
Hartung, Léger, etc. His paintings are now exhibited all over the
world.
